I did two workshops with Brian and both fantastic. Learned so much about the classical oil painting techniques. Dunhill gave me the extra dimension of being away from home and enjoying the stay in Tramore. The new venue in the heart of Cork City is a gem and very near home. I took the recent 3day Baroque Master Painting Workshop with Brian Smyth at Classical Art Atelier in Dunhill, Co. Waterford and I found it both inspiring and informative. In that short period, the basic technique of the old masters was presented to us by Brian and a new world of playing with colour and form was opened up to me. I will look at paintings in a different light from now on. The atmosphere in class was always pleasant and helpful. In appraising my work, Brian always pointed out the strengths of my painting, not the weaknesses. During those three days I was given the tools to take my painting skills to a whole other level, full of confidence and passion. I will display my painting of Caravaggio’s ‘Saint John the Baptist in the Wilderness’ with pride in my home. I will take another workshop with Brian in the not too distant future. The painting workshop with Brian Smyth was a real privilege – to have all of the benefits of a Florence academy right here in Ireland! Even after years of oil painting on my own, there were still so many things I didn’t know or understand.
